8/7/2019 - RATTLESNAKE SPOTTED IN WINSLOW TOWNSHIP

Winslow Township has received a confirmed report of a timber rattlesnake in the area of Bittlewood Avenue in the Albion section of Winslow Township. Timber rattlesnakes have a natural habitat in the area, however it is important to remember to take safety precautions.

The timber rattlesnake is basically a passive animal, but can become defensive when threatened. As endangered animals in the State of New Jersey, it’s important that residents do not approach rattlesnakes. Additionally, they could potentially deliver a venomous strike.

If you spot a snake that you believe is a timber rattlesnake, please call the NJDEP Snake Response Team at  1 (877) 927-6337 or call 911 in case of an emergency.
